The CAP21 F-GDTM was manufactured by Auguste Mudry's company, a specialist in aerobatics, in Bernay (Eure). The F-GDTM had its first flight in 1986. A single-seat aircraft designed for international competition, its structure is made of wood. It can handle accelerations of +8 g and -6 g. It is equipped with a 200 horsepower Lycoming 4-cylinder injection engine and a variable pitch propeller. Its empty weight is 520 kg, with a maximum aerobatic weight of 620 kg. Its stall speed is 85 km/h, and its maximum speed is 372 km/h. It has a roll rate of 270°/second. It measures 6.46 m in length and has a wingspan of 8.08 m. The aircraft presented in Carcassonne was purchased in 2009 by a group of friends and restored in Saint-Junien at Mécavia workshops. It is the fourteenth of the sixteen CAP 21s built by Mudry. The Aquitaine Voltige association operates this CAP21. The aero club is based at Bordeaux-Léognan airfield. The pilot, Pierre Espias, 57, has been flying since he was 16. Competing in aerobatics, he has nearly 1000 flight hours, including 600 in aerobatics. Pierre is also a coach for the Bordeaux aero club's aerobatic team.
